The George is the fourth, and newest member of the pocket stable at Rock-it Pocket. The George is named for Naumburg son #3, George, who arrived into this world at almost the same time in 2003 as this new pocket variation to the Classic Rock-it Pocket did. We can forever link one to the other chronologically.

For quite some time I had been rolling over in my mind several ways to make a couple of simple but significant changes to the Rock-it Pocket. I have always wanted to take a little weight out of the Rock-it Pocket whenever I can. One of its drawbacks is that the RP is heavier than other pockets. There is more to it, so that logically adds a little weight.

Another goal I had was to try and make a pocket that caught the ball as well as anything on the market. I wanted to compete with the mesh pockets that have created "lazy" catchers, players who are upset if they have to do any of the work to catch the ball. The stick with a mesh made catching simple because there is so much give to the pocket. I wanted to bring another catching dimension to the Rock-it Pocket. Never take any catch for granted, though. Always help your stick to perform well. It will do the same for you.

My fear was always that I didn’t want a pocket where there could be extensive movement or shifting around in the pocket lacing. This is what happens when there are less "diamonds" in the lacing pattern, and the ties are too far apart. This is the path to inconsistency, and that won’t do with the RP.

I also didn’t want the pocket to lose its form and get so soft that a player would have to whip the ball out of the stick every time, leaving no room for touch passes, etc. This is another potential problem when using less material in the pocket construction.
We hope that with the George we have come up with another choice or alternative that might just fit your game. I have to say it fit mine, and I am using this model now. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
