ROCK-IT POCKET HAND CRAFTED MESH

Overview

Mesh pockets rose rapidly in popularity during the mid-1990's, mostly thanks to how easy they are to install and maintain. They catch the ball extremely well and have a quick release, making them very popular with lacrosse players worldwide. By sticking to a few simple rules, we've found that we can make the mesh pockets perform much in the same way that our Rock-it Pockets do.

Former Colorado State midfielder Derek Koll collaborated with us to make a consistent style that we can recreate head after head. With some tweaks, we have found a way to have the pocket track the ball up the face of the head like a Rock-it Pocket, but still have the soft catch of mesh.

Our craftsmen hand string each mesh head with the same care and attention given to our Rock-it Pockets, and they come built in ready to play. There is not much break in time, but since mesh tends to wear down quicker, they will obviously not last as long as the Rock-it Pockets.

By keeping the mesh tight at the top of the head, we are able to mimic the Rock-it Pocket's smooth throwing plane. To control whip and make sure passes and shots remain consistent, we keep it tight at the bottom of the head as well.

One of the problems with mesh is that the sidewalls have a tendency to break down because they are constantly under pressure. We have solved that by using the same high-strength polyester string we use in our Rock-it Pockets all the way around the mesh. Since we keep it tight to the sidewalls, the connecting string has a much lower chance of wearing down over time.

Our stringers use three shooting strings across the the top of the pocket. We can put a "horseshoe" shaped bottom string or leave it straight depending on which method you would like us to use. The horseshoe gives you a little extra hold, but both will track the ball up the face of the head and out of the pocket with consistency. We take the same care in stringing our mesh that we do with the Rock-it Pockets, so you know the quality will be there. (Pictures will be posted soon.)

Soft Mesh

Soft Mesh

Soft mesh catches the ball well. Since the pocket has so much give, it will have a slight tendency to lose its shape a little quicker than most pocket styles. It can be a little more difficult to keep the throw consistent with soft mesh and the release will be slower than most types of stringing methods. However, soft mesh will not stretch as much as hard mesh, meaning there can be less maintenance involved.

Hard Mesh

Hard Mesh

Hard mesh is great in bad weather and will stay consistent throughout much of the life of the pocket. You get great snap out of hard mesh so you can really "feel" the ball come out of the head. Hard mesh has a very quick release because there is a lot of pressure moving towards the middle of the pocket. We like the hard mesh because of how similar we can make it to the Rock-it Pocket.

6-Diamond Mesh

6-Diamond Mesh

Six-diamond mesh is best for more advanced players who are looking for a little more power on their shots and passes. The larger mesh holes hold on to the ball well, but there is a lot more room for error in throwing. There isn't as much snap in the 6-diamond mesh and it seems to wear out more quickly than the rest. Since there isn't much surface area for the mesh, it will stretch out and become inconsistent more than the other meshes.
