| The Brine Assett is new in 2009 and features a very innovative design concept that should make it a favorite of stick doctors and string junkies everywhere. The noteworthy concept of this head are holes in the middle of the sidewall rather than on the bottom rail. This means that the pocket will hang from the middle of the sidewall instead of from the bottom of the stick and, in effect, your pocket will "hang" a little deeper. Rock-it Pocket owner Flip Naumburg took a special liking to this head right away and got his hands dirty with the implementation of how to make our pocket work in it. A little ingenuity was needed to figure out how to get the Rock-it Pocket's sidewall strings to work, but the effect is fairly interesting. For what it's worth, STX tried out this concept with the old STX Liquid, but it appears to us that this will be a much more substantial attempt. With an extra 5/8" or so to hang, the pocket can actually be deeper than it could in a normal lacrosse head. Therefore, even though it will measure to legality, the Assett will naturally have a pocket that is deeper than most heads. In our test head, the pocket is kept even shallower than normal and the hold is still just fine. The stringing holes allow for a multitude of options, including resting the pocket either higher or lower depending on where you take your sidewall strings. Some players who have a lot of time on their hands will enjoy playing around to figure out where they like their pocket to "hang." As for some of the other practical parts of the head, the sidewall profile will remind many of Brine's Cyber Pro. In fact, they are almost identical when held up side by side. The Assett is not as pinched as many of Brine's heads, including the Clutch, Cyber Pro or Truth, so it should be of good use to intermediate players. The scoop is more rounded than what you would think of with Brine historically. The Assett weighs about 145 grams unstrung, which is about equivalent to the Franchise and lighter than the Cyber Pro.
