The Brine Assett was new in 2009 and featured a very innovative design concept. The noteworthy feature of this head is that there are holes in the middle of the sidewall rather than at the bottom. This means that the pocket will hang from the middle of the sidewall instead of from the bottom of the stick and, in effect, your pocket will "hang" a little deeper. The hang pushes the pocket well into the center of the head as well, which works well for the player under the new head guidelines. So does the Brine reverse channeling of the triangular ‘holes’ for the pocket stringing. The Brine Asset X is another of the Brine line that is the original model (Asset) changed only to meet 2010 specifications. It is legal for both NCAA and NFHS play. The look of the head is identical to the Asset other than the 3” opening at the throat, but this does change a few things about the utility of the head. In this case it helps the ability to get a higher pocket, which is a little bit harder to achieve with the original Asset. Also, with the first Asset it can be a little difficult to keep the pocket legal. The ball gets stuck in the throat sometimes because it is so narrow, and with the wider throat on the Asset X it is no big thing to keep that part of things to hold up under legal scrutiny. With that extra 5/8" or so to hang, the pocket can actually be deeper than it could be in a normal lacrosse head that has its holes placed or drilled along the sidewall base or bottom. Therefore, even though it will measure to legality, the Asset X will naturally tend to have a pocket that feels a little deeper and more in control than many heads. In our test head, the pocket is kept even shallower than normal and the hold is still just fine. The stringing holes allow for a multitude of options, including resting the pocket either higher or lower depending on where you take your sidewall strings. Some players who have a lot of time on their hands will enjoy playing around to figure out where they like their pocket to "hang." The Asset X weighs in at about 147 grams unstrung, which is an equivalent weight range to its Franchise brother. As for some of the other practical parts of the head, the sidewall profile is similar to the Brine Cyber Pro. In fact, the profiles are almost identical when held up side by side. It has the maximum offset for ball control capability. The scoop is very similar to The Brine Franchise with its trellis type of design. The Asset X should be good for intermediate players playing any of the three field positions.
