Brine Verdict

The Verdict came down from Brine a few years ago in 2009. It is legal for NFHS play, but the throat opening, or lack thereof, renders the Verdict too narrow for NCAA use.

I have read several of the reviews on line that compare this head to the STX Viper 2, and the visual aspect of the sidewall opening on the Verdict is in fact reminiscent of the Viper. The two heads are also similar in terms of how pinched the sidewalls are when looking at the face of the head.

Upon further review, however, the Verdict is in fact quite different from the Viper 2 in many ways. They are made by different companies for starters, and therefore the plastic material on each is a little different.

The throat opening is wider on the Verdict than the Viper 2, and this, of course, makes for a little more area to catch the ball in.

The off-set on the Verdict happens quickly. The side view reveals a line that then angles up as it nears the top or scoop area of the stick head. The Viper 2 has a much more gradual and continuous curve on its sidewall leading the Verdict to play differently as well. When placing the two pocket-less heads on a tabletop, both heads rock like a rocking chair, but the top of the scoop on the Viper 2 comes to rest more than an inch higher off the surface than the Verdict. The pocket will sit low in the Verdict much more easily than the Viper 2 model that wants the pocket center to be up a little higher in the head.

The Verdict head plunges farther down onto the shaft than does the Viper 2, and the Viper 2 is longer onto the shaft in the front than the back, while the Verdict extends more at the back. At about 136.5 grams the Verdict is just slightly lighter than the Viper 2, and could be characterized as being about average in weight.

SCOOP RATING - Fair to good. The scoop on the Verdict is not as rounded as the Viper 2, and it flattens nicely for efficient scoopability

STRINGING - There are way too many holes on the sidewalls as well as the scoop of the Verdict. The holes are all triangular in shape, not round. The scoop alone has ten �openings' for the lacer to utilize. Four of those scoop holes are plenty big enough to accommodate leathers. In general we recommend that the pocket be put in this one by a �pro' for best performance.

STIFFNESS - The Verdict is average in terms of stiffness. This head will perform capably and has proven to be fairly durable.

The buyer can save quite a bit of coin with the Verdict choice. The entry-level player will do great with this one because it is not loaded with a lot of high performance features to confuse the user.
