STX's popular Crankshaft series continues with the K18, 2007 entry for the company. The K18 was engineered by the popular Kyle Harrison and the K18 is a head that we particularly like for shooting and general throwing. If there was one complaint about the head, it's the stiffness, or lack thereof. This head will have a tendency of "folding" on groundball pickups that aren't perfect. We weighed it at 128 grams, nearly 10 grams lighter than what STX reported. Similar in shape to the Proton Power, the K18 is fairly narrow throughout the head. As with all of the Crankshaft models, you get a little more power and hold, not to mention control. The K18 is a winner for us as long as you are not upset by the flexibility. Here is a review by one of our CSU players who tested this head for several weeks: As common practice for STX, the K18 has more than enough sidewall holes. This allows players to string the head with anything and in anyway they could possibly want. The holes also cut down on the weight of the head, which paired with the wide-open design of the sidewall, makes it a very light head. The overall face shape is great, I think. Wide enough, but not too wide, at the scoop for a good catching and scooping area. The narrow throat keeps the ball tight to the sidewall for maximum control and protection (similar to the Deuce). The head is extremely flexible though, so if you are an aggressive ground-baller you may need to use more finesse. These facts lead me to believe it would be a great face-off head. Note: This head is only suitable for use with the Gait TOS Offset Handles (DB803 TOS and Silencer TOS) or STX Crankshaft Titanium and 7075 10 degree handles.
