The STX Primer was new in 2006 and it is the least radical of STX's line of heads during this production period. Looking at its face, it is very similar in shape to the STX Deuce, but it obviously doesn't feature any of the rubber. This is a very light and compact head, which may be an advantage for short stick players. It is fairly flexible, making us not recommend it as much for long poles. The head is very narrow in the middle, actually moreso than at the throat. With the way the plastic comes back from the throat to the middle of the head and then fades back towards the scoop, the ball will fit very snugly in the pocket. Its almost like this head wants the ball to fit in the middle of the head. We like the look of the Primer because its lines are very smooth and there doesn't appear to be anything too outlandish about this design. The scoop is fairly flat compared to some of the other lines on this head. It is ideally positioned for leathers (and Rock-it Pockets) because of the four "tabs" up near the scoop that help protect leathers. The Primer's throat is very short, but is also very strong. There are beams running down all four sides that keep the throat rigid. The screw hole is also recessed, which will protect the stringing from wear and tear. There are a lot of ways to string the head because there are so many holes up and down the bottom rail. There are also holes for weight reduction on the top rail.
