The STX Viper2 was first released in 2009. It is a moderate head made for the intermediate player, but will likely be a good choice for defensemen as well. This is an update of an old design. STX&r's “forward cant” gives players a quick release and the head features a flat scoop for improved groundball pickup. Back in the early 90&r's, many played with the original Viper. The Viper2 still has a couple of things that many liked back then. The old one was not curved, canted or offset and this one is some or all of that now. The flat scoop is very similar to the original Viper and is nice and wide. The effect of this is that it flattens out easily and allows the ball to almost jump into the pocket. There is a very vague resemblance to the old Viper when you look at its profile, but in most ways, it is a totally modern head model. The head is plenty light for those who care about every gram, weighing in at 127 grams empty. There is not much to protect the strings on the bottom of each sidewall, but the strings are recessed up on the scoop.
