| The STX X3 was the company's first foray into the offset handle market in 2006. Loosely modeled after the Excalibur and the popular X2, the X3 is a nice, light head that we like. Where the X2 and newer Xcalibur are more curved, the X3 uses the forward cant technology to create the same feel without quite as much curve in the actual head itself. Weighing 131 grams, this is a light head, though most companies will be getting lighter and lighter as the years progress. One thing we noticed immediately with this head is that the sidewall stringing holes are very close to the bottom of the head, which could be an issue as the head gets older. The throat is fairly well pinched and tight and the face widens to the typically well-rounded STX scoop. In fact, if you didn't know this was a new head and only looked at the scoop, you wouldn't be able to tell which head this is. The throat is solidly built and shouldn't lend itself to breaking down near the screw hole and there are nice beams running along the top and bottom sidewalls that keep this head stiff. As with all the Crankshaft models from STX, the X3 will have a nice "rock" to it and will hold the ball very nicely. There is something we like about the Crankshaft in general, and the X3 suits it well. Of all the Crankshaft heads, this one is probably most suited for defensemen and it is certainly the most stiff. Note: This head is only suitable for use with the Gait TOS Offset Handles (DB803 TOS and Silencer TOS) or STX Crankshaft Titanium and 7075 10 degree handles.
