Looking to take the place of one of the most popular heads ever, the Xcalibur is new from STX in 2008. Modeled very closely off the X2 and the Proton Plus, the Xcalibur will certainly be popular with the large contingent of X2 fans who feared the head's extinction several years ago. In fact, comparing an old X2 with an Xcalibur yields very little difference, save for a couple asthetic changes. About 13 grams heavier than the X3, the Xcalibur weighs in at 145 grams and is one of the stiffer heads offered by STX. Most of the extra bulk appears to reside in the throat of the head, which is sturdy and well-built. The rest of the head is extremely stiff as well, therefore, we surmise that defenders will like this head a lot. With STX's "forward-cant" technology, the ball will naturally sit a little higher in the head, making Dog pockets a natural fit. This head also gives stringers the option of fitting it one "notch" higher or lower depending on which sidewall holes they choose. The Xcalibur has the traditional STX scoop and leathers fit nicely into it.
