Using just about every single one of Warrior's patents on one head, the Helix is a hodge-podge of what has made Warrior so popular over the last 10 years. This head has great potential. It is light and it uses an hourglass shape to promote the ball staying in when checked. The Helix has attempted to fix one of the problems that is prevelant with today's heads. Towards the bottom, the Helix opens up, hopefully making it impossible for the ball to get stuck near the throat (a la Bill McGlone a couple years ago in the NCAA tourney). Weighing in at 139 grams, this head is pretty light and seems to hold up pretty well over time. The Helix also features a "twisted sidewall" design. This was first attempted in the popular Warrior Blade, but the narrow face of the old style heads made them obsolete. Warrior attempts to get past that by offering a head that will meet all NCAA specs but also keep the ball as well as it can. We think that the Helix will pick up some of the slack left from the Blade's extinction as a face-off head. It will also cross over to the attack market. As the most flexible of Warrior's 2007 model heads, the Helix probably isn't a great choice for defensemen. We expect that this will be one of the top selling heads in the country for the next few years. READ OUR EXTENDED REVIEW OF THE HELIX HERE >>
